Accessing the NCNR

Purpose of VisitTo get access, you MUST register each timeDeadlines
First Time Facility User  Click here for detailed instructions. 35 calendar days before arrival is required unless you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (with a green card), in which case a minimum of three full business days is needed.
Returning Facility User (if you are unsure of your access status, contact the User Office at ncnraccess@nist.gov or 301-975-8200) NOT on the NCNR Access list at the scheduled time of arrival Click here for detailed instructions. 35 calendar days before arrival are required unless you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (with a green card), in which case a minimum of three full business days are required. Non-User Visit
(examples: tour, talk, seminar, etc.)
  Click here to access our visitor registration page and fill out the request form. Three full business days in advance is needed.

Some users may see a blank page when using the links above. This occurs because some browsers have problems with the new FIPS 140-2 validated encryption that is now mandatory on all federal systems. Since access to the NCNR-IMS now requires the use of an Internet Browser that is capable of TLS 1.0 encryption, users are advised to refer to the following instructions:
 
Internet Browser Requirements
a) Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) - version 6.0 or later is required. To check your version of IE, click Help | About.

Note: Some settings may be pre-set and cannot be changed. If so, then users should skip those settings and simply change the settings that can be changed.

IE version 6.0

Please verify the following settings by clicking Tools | Internet Options:

  • Use TLS 1.0 (Security section under Advanced tab)
  • Enable Java Scripting (Scripting section from Custom Level under Security tab)
  • Enable Cookies (Cookies section from Custom Level under Security tab)
  • After making changes, restart the browser.

IE version 7.0

Please verify the following settings by clicking Tools | Internet Options:

  • Enable TLS 1.0 (Security section under Advanced tab)
  • Enable Java Scripting (Scripting section from Custom Level under Security tab)
  • Enable Cookies (Cookies section from Advanced option under Privacy tab)
  • After making changes, restart the browser.

b) Mozilla Firefox - version 1.0 or later is required. To check the your version, click Help | About. There have been reports of problems with FIPS compliance; if you see page errors (e.g. "Transmission Interrupted" error), please try upgrading Firefox or use IE.

Note: Some settings may be pre-set and cannot be changed. If so, then users should skip those settings and simply change the settings that can be changed.

Please verify the following settings based on your operations system:

  1. Windows - (Tools | Options)
  2. Linux - (Edit | Preferences)
  3. Mac - (Firefox | Preferences)

  • Enable JavaScript (Content tab)
  • Accept Cookies (Privacy tab)
  • Use TLS 1.0 (Advanced | Encryption)
  • After making changes, restart the browser.
c) Safari - no changes required.
 
Once the above settings have been set, you should be able to access the new URL by clicking on the link https://www-s.nist.gov/NCNR-IMS (open in a new window)
