M4-A1 (3:45 PM): Recent Results on Cuprate Superconductors (Invited)

H. A. Mook (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), Pengcheng Dai (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Tennessee; Oak Ridge National Laboratory)

Neutron scattering results on the cuprate superconductors will be discussed. The emphasis will be on the most recent results on both the hole and electron doped materials. Much of the talk will concentrate on the high-energy magnetic excitations in the YBCO class of materials that have been determined using the ISIS pulsed source. These have a large part of the total spectral weight and are present above the superconducting transition. This makes them a good candidate for the glue that establishes the electron pairing and thus the superconductivity. The hole doping dependence of these excitations will be considered.
