Information for New Research Staff
Welcome to the NCNR User Laboratory Facilities!
Before using the laboratories you will need to do the following:
- Take the laboratory safety training for staff. You can talk to Yamali or email her at: yamali@nist.gov.
Before attending this training session, please view the Powerpoint presentation (4.44MB).
This training is different from the users training. It will provide you with the information that you need to instruct your users.
Following this training, you will be required to complete the Laboratory Safety Quiz.
- If you are going to work with acids you will need separate training. If you have not taken the acid training or if you break any of the rules and regulations for Laboratories E132 and E134 you will not be allowed in these laboratories.
- Order a lab coat. Yamali will assist you in this.
- Order prescription safety glasses, if needed. To obtain prescription safety glasses, you will need to fill out the form, visit the Optician on site and show proof of prescription for vision correction from the last two years. Additional information can be found on the NIST internal site on eye wear.
During your stay at the NCNR:
- As an instrument scientist remember that you are responsible for all laboratory rules.
- You are responsible for your users. It is important to make sure that they follow the rules and etiquette of the laboratory.
- Plan ahead! Experiments can be successful only if you plan with time.
- If you need help please do not hesitate to ask, just be considerate of monetary and time constrains.
Before departing from the NCNR:
- You are required to cleanup your laboratory area and have John Barker sign your paperwork before you leave.
- If you wish to leave any chemicals in the laboratory, please speak to Yamali.
