MOTIVATION
One of the grand challenges of today's nanotechnology is the
scale reduction of electronic and mechanical devices to atomic dimensions.
This has led to increased effort in laboratories throughout the word
in the development of novel materials where atomically precise control
over matter is required.
Owing to recent advances in the synthesis of nearly mono-dispersed
carbon nanotubes with a diameter of 1.0-1.4 nm, yet hundreds of
microns in length, carbon nanotubes appear to be ideal candidates
for such advanced materials
