Housing and Transportation Information

Housing:
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Comfort Inn - Shady Grove, Rockville, MD, at the special rate of $69+12% tax for a single room, $79+12% for a double. Accepted students will be asked to contact the hotel directly to make reservations, preferably no later than May 27, 2001. They should state that they will be attending the Summer School on Methods and Applications of Neutron Spectroscopy at NIST, and that they are entitled to the special room rate. They should plan to arrive on June 17 and leave no earlier than June 22.

The room rate includes a full buffet breakfast. The hotel provides shuttle service to and from the Shady Grove Metro station until 9 p.m. Shuttle reservations should be made a day in advance.

Transportation between airport and hotel:
Van service to hotels in the Gaithersburg area from National, BWI (Baltimore-Washington International) and Dulles airports is available from Maryland Shuttle (1-800-590-0000, 301-881-8800), or from Super Shuttle (1-800-258-3826) for roughly $25. Reservations are not needed for the Super Shuttle.

The Washington Metro (202-637-7000) has subway service to Gaithersburg from Washington National Airport. The travel time from National Airport to the Shady Grove station in Gaithersburg, the terminus of the "Red Line", is 50-60 minutes. A one-way ticket costs $2.10 during off peak hours, $3.25 during peak hours (5:30-9:30 a.m. and 3-8 p.m.). NIST and local hotels are a short taxi ride from the Shady Grove station or you may call the Comfort Inn for a shuttle pickup (before 9 p.m.).

Transportation between hotel and NIST:
We intend to provide a NIST vehicle to pick up attendees at the Comfort Inn each morning, and return them to the hotel in the late afternoon.
