John R. D. Copley
John Copley is a physicist in the
NIST Center for Neutron Research
which is part of the
Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory at the
National Institute of Standards and Technology in
Gaithersburg,
Maryland.
He is responsible for the new cold neutron
disk chopper time-of-flight spectrometer
which is under construction at the NIST
Center for Neutron Research.
Education:
BA (1966), MA (1976):
Oxford University (UK).
PhD in Physics (1970):
McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario (1970).
Thesis adviser:
Professor Bertram N. Brockhouse
Research Interests:
Experimental and theoretical studies of
the structure and dynamics of molecular materials,
particularly fullerenes.
Low energy dynamics of globular proteins.
Methods of simulating/calculating the performance
of neutron instrument components.
Instrumentation for inelastic and
quasielastic neutron scattering.
