Progress at the European Spallation Source

Andrew Jackson (European Spallation Source and Lund University, Sweden)

Construction of the European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden, is well underway with a goal of first user operations in 2023. Once complete, the facility will have the world.s most powerful neutron scattering source at the heart of a multi-disciplinary research center providing new opportunities for researchers in the fields of life sciences, materials science, energy, environmental technology, cultural heritage and fundamental physics.
The last year has seen significant civil construction, organizational change to enable involvement of ESS partner countries, and the selection of the initial suite of instruments that will be built as part of the construction budget of the ESS.
This talk will introduce the European Spallation Source and present the current state of progress, with a particular focus on neutron scattering instruments.
