INSTRUMENT SCIENTIST
NIST CENTER FOR NEUTRON RESEARCH

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) is seeking candidates for a position as Instrument Scientist for the BT-7 thermal triple axis spectrometer. The position is in the Condensed Matter Physics Team which supervises a suite of thermal and cold neutron triple axis spectrometers. A doctorate in condensed matter physics or related discipline is required. Experience in triple-axis neutron spectrometry or related techniques, and familiarity with computer software development for triple-axis data acquisition and analysis, is desirable but not essential. The incumbent is expected to assist scientific users on the BT-7 spectrometer, contribute to the running of the facility and planning for future instrument upgrades, as well as perform their own independent research taking advantage of the wide range of neutron instrumentation available at the NCNR. Appointment will initially be for two years with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years. Salary is in the range from $75,000 - $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
